Declamation Speech Self-Evaluation

You must view & evaluate your own speech in order to receive your grade on your Declamation Speech.

(Yes…I am, in fact, evil.)

You will need to view the video of your speech in its entirety (this will probably have to happen during class or after school unless you can have someone record you on your own device on your speaking day).

Using the Declamation Rubric, give yourself a grade and write a 2 page reflection of your performance.  You will be focusing predominately on delivery since you did not compose this speech. Reference what you see in your video & be specific.

You can also use the criteria on this Oratorical Declamation Critique Sheet as a guideline to evaluate your speech.

Use terminology from Chapter 11: Delivery in your textbook as a guide as well: memorization, volume, pitch, rate, pauses, articulation, annunciation, speed, body language, eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, dress, poise, posture, appearance, etc. (P.S. This is your first reading assignment too).

This activity requires self-reflection not self-criticism.  Focus on strengths and weaknesses.

Discuss which two aspects of your speaking skills you want to work on for the next speech and give yourself a grade using the rubric.

Follow MLA format and remember Borger’s comment re: college level writing. You should not struggle to get two full pages out of this assignment & some of you may write more.
