A Note About Grades

Howdy:

A majority of folks made yesterday’s deadline for work.

Folks with extensions need to get me work today or by Friday, depending on what I sent out to you via email / FB messenger.

Radio silence and not submitting work will result in zeroes by Friday 05/08.

A few final clarifications on grading:

  • zeroes will make your grade go down
    • not submitting all three final assignments = 2 letter grade drops on final grade
    • if you haven’t turned anything in – do the metareflection as it is worth the most points
  • if you submitted all work, your grade can’t go down
    • it will stay the same as it was before break
    • if you submitted above-average work, it can improve
    • this work isn’t just ‘completion’ grades like high school
  • you need a “C” or better in this course to be considered passing
  • folks with “D’s” or lower will have the course wiped off their college transcript at JALC
    • they can take English 102 over again
    • this will not hurt college GPA
    • this will not result in Financial Aid penalties for college the way a “W” – withdraw grade does

I like you.  These are stressful times. Do what you need to stay safe and sane. For some of you, that means you need a do-over on this course. That’s fine. I took Psychology 101 FOUR TIMES before I passed and look at me now! I use metacognitive learning theories every day in my teaching!

ALL FINAL WORK DUE BY MAY 5th

This is the chart of final student work for college credit that I’ve received as of 10 am Saturday 05/09.

Final work was due by midnight on Tuesday 05/05/2020 for you to get college credit. A few folks have extensions through Friday, but those aren’t automatic. You needed to communicate with me about that.

Students’ names in bold have completed all work for college credit!
*jazz hands for you all!!*

BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN COLLEGE CREDIT IS GUARANTEED!

Zeroes will negatively impact grades. Submitted work will not negatively impact grades – but all work will be graded according to rubrics. This isn’t just “completion credit” like high school.

YOU NEED A “C” TO BE CONSIDERED “PASSING” FOR COLLEGE – it is still possible for some of you to carry a “D” even after turning all work in.

Work not received by 05/05 (or folks who asked for extensions & miss those deadlines) will convert to a zero and your college course grade will go down as a result!

A few of you may need extensions. There are only about 2-3 of you who may need that & we’ve already talked (noted above).

If you ‘shared’ a draft of a document earlier, you need to re-share or re-send that document for your final grade. Don’t assume that an earlier ‘share’ of a Google doc counts toward your final. Help me keep track of your work if you’re using a submission channel other than D2L. I’ll email as I receive work there and you should be able to see when I read your work in D2L.
