Second Remote Friday 08/28

Alrighty!

I wallowed in complexity today like a baby elephant in mud trying to make videos in my classroom all day with little success!

So, apologies for the delay in getting remote work out to you. I’ll be better next week.

Check the Meta-Reflection Journal Page. This is where your weekly reflection prompts will live. It is a single document you will add to each week. Start your first entry this week.

Try logging onto D2L using the documents the amazing Jenny Ditch at JALC sent us earlier this week.  Your course should be active shortly.

(UPDATE: ENGLISH 101 IS LIVE AND THREE PEOPLE HAVE LOGGED IN AS OF NOON, SUNDAY 08/30/2020!)

(Second Update: As of 3:00 pm on Thursday 09/03, 25 folks had signed in. Better, but more need to get online!)

If you have difficulty logging in, email the Dual Credit office at JALC. I want to get us moved out of Google Classrooms and into D2L as soon as we can. You’re going to like it over there much better!

First Remote Friday 08/21

Open up Gmail and send Borger an email.

1. Put your class hour, your current learning group (A/B/Remote) and your “official” name in the subject line: 3rd Hour-A, James Jones

2. Include a greeting: Hello, Good Morning, Howdy, etc.

3. Introduce yourself to Borger – tell her two to three things about yourself she wouldn’t otherwise know.

4. Include a closing: Sincerely, Yours Truly, Have a good day, etc.

5. Include a signature: This is where you type your name. Now, if your “official” name is James, but you go by “Logan” instead, sign your name “Logan” in the signature.

6. When you’ve completed that task, click the “yes” button in your Google Classwork Question. This just lets me see who has and hasn’t checked in and completed today’s work. If you have problems or couldn’t do it, that’s ok. Don’t panic – you’re not going to get docked.

7. I like you!

Week 1: The Longest Week Ever!

REMINDER: This week is a trial by fire.
Mon/Tues = same content / instruction, duplicated
Wed/Thurs = same content / instruction, duplicated
Friday = all remote learning.
REMOTE LEARNERS! I SEE YOU! I APPRECIATE YOU! Sorry for the redundancy, but I’m just trying to figure out how this all works. Hang tight through the boredom and lag. Teachers now have 21 sections of students with A / B / Remote instead of the regular 7 when we’re all face-to-face.

PLUS: I had to 100% switch direction to go live-remote-from-home-all-of-a-sudden on Wednesday with NO notice!

Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming! 😀

I like you.
Be safe.
Make smart choices.
Keep your moist droplets outta’ my nose holes & I’ll do the same for you!

FALL COVID 2020 DUAL CREDIT / ENGLISH 101

Howdy Folks:

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Borger (Bore-GRRRRRRR). No Ms. Miss. or Mrs. needed.

Just Borger, That’s All. You can learn more about me here.

(Just kidding! You can really learn more about me here.)

First things first: if you’ve taken classes at JALC or any dual credit courses before, try accessing your D2L and MyJALC Account.

If you haven’t logged on to MyJALC before, contact the folks in the dual credit office for assistance (their contact info is in the PDF linked above).

(Frustrated yet? Welcome to almost-college then.)

EVERYTHING we do will be through D2L in here – assignments will be uploaded through D2L, content will be posted, etc. We have a Google Classroom shell to use for the first few weeks until everyone is officially registered and in the class. After that, it will be all D2L.

If you’re unfamiliar with D2L, learn more about it here.

Your first “assignment” once we’re all in D2L will be to change your D2L profile picture.  If you’ve already got access to D2L, try to add a photo now.

More forthcoming.
