Weeks 8-9: Dueling Research Projects

Both COM 115 & ENG 102 are working on self-directed research projects.

COM 115: 

• Quiz over chapters 4 & 14 on Tuesday, 02/22
• Conduct preliminary research on your topic, narrow and start collecting articles for an annotated bibliography, due before spring break.
• Informative Speech Assignment
• Conduct research in class and conference with Borg

ENG 102: 

• Phase 2 of Self-Directed Research Projects
• Annotated bibliographies are due Sunday 02/20 – extension requests were granted through Friday / Saturday.
  • Folks who missed extension requests, submit asap and remember = 10% off each day late.
  • Turn something in for the bib grade – you can always continue to conduct research after for your paper.
• Conferences with Borg week 8:
  • We’ll discuss research process, chunk your data into main ideas and see what thesis emerges
  • We’ll look at your last essay and see how to improve using quotes & citing for this paper
  • We’ll discuss possible project ideas for after break
• MetaReflections Midterm due Friday 02/25 by 3:00 pm
• Drafting and revising week 9
• Research Paper due Friday 03/04-Sunday 03/06.
  • Extension requests must be made by the end of school on Friday 03/04
  • I will be going offline at that time for all of spring break

Week 7

COM 115

• Group presentations – you will work in pairs and present information over chapters 1, 2, 3, & 10.
• Read chapters 4 & 14 in your text – quiz Tuesday 02/22.
• Email Borg possible topics for Speech 3: Informative Speech.
• See D2L for details.

ENG 102

• Continue research and draft annotated bibliographies
• Annotated Bibliographies due Sunday 02/20
• Midterms due Friday 02/25 by 3:00 pm – hard deadline on midterms and finals
• Conference with Borg Week 8
• Details in D2L.

Week 6: Self-Directed Research

ENGLISH 102

Guest speaker will come in and introduce you to Google Scholar – always use this in conjunction with D2L in the background so you have access to blocked materials via JALC’s Library.

Check the schedule in your syllabus (page 4):

Annotated Bibliography due Week 7.

Midterm MetaReflection due Week 8.

Essay due week 9. 

You will have mandatory conferences between weeks 6-9 to discuss research progress and possible project / presentation (due week 10 when we return from spring break).
