Week 16: Special Occasion Speeches

ENG 101:

FINISH MACBETH!!!! Collect quotes over Acts 3-5, complete the discussion post in D2L by Monday 11/27 (it’s been posted for 2 weeks and as of T’giving break, only 1 person has completed the HW).

Quiz over Acts 3-5; check split-quotes; seminar. Write the first of two essays for Macbeth.

Maintain MetaReflection prompts (most folks have fallen behind – few are currently caught up).

COM 115:

Students will read chapter 17 on Special Occasion Speeches

Students will do a group / paired presentation, covering primary content from chapter 17.

Students will quiz over chapter 17 Friday 12/01 & send Borg potential topics for SOS speeches by Sunday 12/03.

Special Occasion Speeches  will be delivered Week 17.

Any revisions of written work needs to be uploaded by December 3rd for review.

Speech do-overs will need to be completed by December 8th.

Weeks 14-15: Macbeth & Persuasive Speeches

English 101: Read as much of Macbeth as we can get through before Christmas.

Folks who are absent must read and stay caught up when you are gone. Take split-notes as we read over how characters change / remain the same over the course of the play.

We finished Acts 1-2 week 14; took a quiz Friday 11/18.

We will read Act 3 prior to T’giving break. Stay on top of MetaReflections and check the Discussion Post in D2L (upcoming HW assignment).

Quiz Chapters 15 & 16 Monday

Craft & draft persuasive speeches throughout the week.

Friday 11/17:

Sunday 11/19: Outlines with works cited pages due in D2L – upload a final PDF of your slides after your speaking day (folks from Friday can do this early)

Week 13: 11/06 – 11/09 Start Macbeth

English 101: 

We have a short week and 1/2 of you will be gone Thursday for Gov’t field trip.

We will start Macbeth by creating character maps and doing a pre-play seminar. Details in D2L.

COM 115:

Start Persuasive Unit:

Watch sample persuasive speeches & reverse engineer an outline.

Read chapters 15 & 16 (quiz Monday 11/13 since there is no school Friday for Veteran’s Day)

Check links in D2L (NYT 300 argumentative prompts & Opposing Viewpoints from JALC Database). Email Borg 3 potential topics by Sunday 11/12 at noon.
