COM 115: Persuasive Speeches – Speech 4

  • Emails of final topics for Persuasive Speeches due Sunday 11/06 by 11:59 PM. As of this update, Lilly, Emma, Bailey, Abigail, and Waylon still need to email final topics.
  • Conduct research and craft / draft in class.
  • DO NOT SIT AND GOSSIP WITH ONE ANOTHER! Lab time is to work. If you are not going to work, do not distract peers with your loud stories.

ENG 101: Macbeth

  • Finish Reading Act I
  • Start Act II – finish Act II on your own over the weekend if we don’t finish it in class
  • Collect Split-Quotes
  • Work on Meta-Reflection in the background

Week 13: 10/31-11/04

COM 115: 

  • Monday-Tuesday: Finish group practice speeches focusing & get those on their feet
  • Wednesday:
  • Thursday: Discuss “Put the Breaks on Teenage Driving” – pathos/ethos/logos & organization
  • Friday: 
    • Email Borg your final topic for Persuasive Speeches and start conducting research.
    • Build your biography as you go. 5-7 sources for this speech.
    • Outlines with works cited pages + Slides due in D2L next Sunday 11/13/22

Monday – Wednesday: Conference one-on-one with all students over all papers they’ve written this semester. Discuss revision strategies and deadlines for Essays 1-3.

Week 11: 10/17-10/21

THE WEEK OF FIELD TRIPS!

Monday: 1/2 of students will be gone on a field trip or working the blood drive. COM 115 students – read chapters 15 & 16.

Tuesday: English 101 – bring printed copies of personal statements to class – we will do a scholarship awarding activity. COM 115 – read chapters 15 & 16.

Wednesday: English 101 – submit final copies of your personal statements. COM 115 – we will do a pathos/ethos/logos activity.

Thursday & Friday: 1/2 of students will be gone on field trips. English 101 – conference with Borger on scholarships / college admissions / revising prior essays / etc. and do week 11 MetaReflection. COM 115 – quiz over chapters 15 & 16.

Week 10: 10/10-10/14

Week 9: Midterm!

COM 115:

  • Annotated Bibliographies are due Sunday 10/02 by 11:59 pm.
  • We will practice oral citations & working off of outlines on Monday.
  • Tuesday – Thursday = conference, work on visual aids, rehearse with technology.

ENG 101:

  • Monday – course evaluation via SGID (Small Group Instructional Diagnosis).
  • Research Essays are due Tuesday 10/04 by 11:59 pm.
  • Tuesday 10/04: FAFSA IN THE LIBRARY – ANYONE WHO HASN’T COMPLETED IT GO TO LIBRARY WITH PHONE AND PREPARE TO ENLIST PARENTAL HELP TO TRY TO FINISH
  • Tues-Fri – college research, applying, working on personal statements for Essay 3.

COM 115:
Finish conferences with Borger
Continue researching topics for Informative Speech & complete annotated bibliographies.
Speech #3: Outline & PowerPoint due Sunday 10/09 – see D2L for submission instructions.
Speech #3: Delivered 10/11-10/14. See D2L for speaking order.

ENG 101:
Draft & conference over guided research essay.
Peer rotation / review: Wednesday 09/28. Bring a print copy of your draft to class.
Final essays due Sunday 10/02 by noon.
Mid-term MetaReflection due Friday 10/07 by 3:00 pm. This has a hard deadline.

Week 7: HOCO!!! 09/19-09/23

Speech:

  • Brainstorm topics for Speech 3: Informative Speeches – HW: Email To Borger
  • Engage in preliminary research
  • Build an annotated bibliography
  • Speeches will be week 9 or 10

English 101:

  • Candy-sorting organizational activity Monday
  • Tuesday – peer rotation and evaluation of annotated bibs
  • Wednesday – Friday: Seminar & prep for synthesis essay
  • Synthesis Essay: Essay 2 due Oct. 2nd
  • MetaReflection MidTerms due Oct. 7th FRIDAY AT 3:00 = hard deadline

Week 6: 09/12-09/16

Speech: 

Monday: View sample impromptu speech – take notes & outline her intro, main points, transitions, and conclusion. We will view it twice & discuss.
Tuesday: Practice impromptu again
Wednesday: Impromptu – SPEECH 2 due for a grade. Everyone will get a prompt IN CLASS IN REAL TIME and give a speech that class period.
Thursday: Quizzes over chapters 4 & 14 will open. You have 3 tries for each quiz through the following Sunday at noon.
Friday 1/2 day: Speech 2 Outline due by 3:00 pm; Reflection 2 due in D2L by noon Sunday email Borger if you want a video link of your speech for outlining / reflection purposes.

English 101:

Monday: Finish citation posters
Tuesday-Thursday: Work on Annotated Bibliographies – DUE SUNDAY 09/18 at noon – email by Friday at 3 if you need an extension to get a timely response from Borg.
Friday 1/2 day: Meta-Reflection & class meeting 7th hour in the Commons
